Description
Cialis contains tadalafil, an oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It helps improve erectile response by increasing blood flow to penile tissue during sexual stimulation. Tadalafil is also approved in standard labeled products for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Indications
Tadalafil is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. In approved labeling, it is also indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, and for men with both erectile dysfunction and BPH when clinically appropriate.

Dosage & Administration
For erectile dysfunction used as needed, the usual recommended starting dose is 10 mg prior to anticipated sexual activity, which may be increased to 20 mg or reduced to 5 mg based on efficacy and tolerability. The maximum recommended dosing frequency in standard labeling is once daily. For once-daily use, lower strengths are typically prescribed. Mechanism of Action
Tadalafil selectively inhibits PDE5, resulting in increased cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels in the corpus cavernosum during sexual stimulation. This promotes smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow, thereby supporting erectile function.

Precautions
Tadalafil is contraindicated in patients taking nitrates because it may cause significant hypotension. It should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, those receiving alpha-blockers or antihypertensive therapy, and patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Side Effects
